A Case Study: ZuriMED & 3DforScience:
ZuriMED, a Swiss medtech company dedicated to advancing orthopedic surgery, partnered with 3DforScience to visualize the FiberLocker® System: an innovative technique for tendon augmentation in rotator cuff repair. The goal was to develop a 3D medical animation that would clearly and accurately illustrate the FiberLocker procedure for educational, promotional, and clinical use.

The FiberLocker animation was designed with orthopedic surgeons and surgical teams in mind. Every visual decision, from portal placement to device interaction, was intended to replicate the operating room perspective.
This tailored approach ensures that the animation resonates with real-world surgical workflows, making it an ideal tool for education, product demonstrations, and global clinical onboarding. By combining clarity and relevance, the content adapts seamlessly across international markets and training contexts.

Every element of the FiberLocker animation was developed in collaboration with ZuriMED’s teams. We recreated the shoulder and depicted device functionality, including the fiber interlocking mechanism, with clarity and precision.
This ensured that the visualized technique would be medically accurate and educationally effective.
The project began with technical documentation and surgical input. We then created a storyboard and annotated visuals to map out the procedure’s flow. Through advanced 3D modeling and fluid animation, we simulated tendon repair, suture handling, and FiberLocker deployment within a realistic arthroscopic environment.

Rather than a static explanation, the animation follows the procedure dynamically, from portal placement to patch integration.
By simulating the microblade action and highlighting the implant’s interaction with tendon tissue, the viewer gains a clear understanding of how the FiberLocker forms a secure fiber-tendon network.

Close collaboration with ZuriMED ensured that our animation remained technically aligned and clinically valuable. We incorporated feedback at every stage, resulting in a final product that serves as a powerful tool for training, product demonstrations, and international market outreach.

The final animation delivered a compelling visual narrative that clearly explains each step of the FiberLocker technique. The animation is helping ZuriMED position FiberLocker as a trusted solution for complex rotator cuff repair, enhancing surgeon confidence and supporting adoption across markets.
“ZuriMED’s goal was to show not just how FiberLocker works, but why it matters. Through this animation, we helped transform surgical complexity into confident clinical practice”
