A Case Study: Orano Med & 3DforScience:

Bringing Targeted Alpha Therapy to Life Through 3D Medical Animation

Orano Med is pioneering a new generation of targeted cancer therapies using the unique properties of lead-212 (²¹²Pb) alpha emitters. To illustrate this cutting-edge approach and explain its three-component mechanism, Orano Med partnered with 3DforScience to develop an engaging and scientifically accurate 3D animation.

Case study Oranomed

The Vision:
Visualizing a Revolutionary Approach in Oncology

Alpha emitters are among the most potent payloads for targeted therapies. Orano Med’s treatment combines a vector, a lead-212 atom, and a chelating agent to deliver high-impact radiation directly to tumor cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. The challenge was to translate this complex science into an intuitive and compelling visual narrative that resonates with researchers, oncologists, and investors alike.

A Tailored Experience for Global Stakeholders

The animation highlights each stage: intravenous administration, tumor targeting, receptor binding, and the emission of alpha particles causing double-strand DNA breaks.

Clear contrasts between organized healthy cells and disorganized tumor tissues demonstrate the therapy’s selectivity and potency, enhancing understanding and trust among medical professionals and decision-makers.

KNOW-HOW: Scientific Accuracy in Every Frame

Our team recreated the molecule’s three key parts: vector, lead-212 core, and chelator; in precise detail.

Dynamic sequences follow the molecule through blood vessels to the tumor site, showing how the alpha particles penetrate cell membranes and nuclei, delivering lethal DNA damage specifically to cancer cells. This molecular storytelling bridges complex radiochemistry and real-world therapeutic benefits.

From concept to visualization

Starting with Orano Med’s technical brief and research input, we storyboarded each molecular and cellular interaction. Using advanced 3D modeling and animation techniques, we brought the journey of lead-212 from injection to tumor eradication to life—creating visuals that are as educational as they are impactful.

Our approach to create an immersive experience

Instead of static images, our approach was dynamic and cinematic: viewers witness the path of alpha particles as they target and destroy cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue.

The animation captures the power and precision of targeted alpha therapy, making it an effective communication tool for conferences, investor meetings, and educational platforms.

Our workflow:
From concept to delivery

Collaboration with Orano Med’s scientific and regulatory teams was key. Iterative reviews ensured alignment with scientific accuracy and compliance. From initial sketches to final rendering, every detail reinforced Orano Med’s commitment to innovation and patient care.

The final outcome

The resulting animation serves as a high-impact asset for Orano Med’s global outreach. By clearly illustrating how lead-212 targets and destroys cancer cells, it supports stakeholder education, investor confidence, and the broader adoption of this promising therapy.

“Orano Med’s vision was to show the true potential of targeted alpha therapy. Through our collaboration, we turned advanced radiochemistry into a clear, compelling story that empowers scientific and clinical dialogue.”
