A Case Study: Axogen & 3DforScience
Axogen partnered with 3DforScience to reimagine the mechanism of action animation for Avance® Nerve Graft, a processed human nerve allograft designed to support peripheral nerve repair.
The animation opens with a patient living with the consequences of a peripheral nerve injury, immediately establishing the real-world significance of the procedure.
From there, the narrative transitions seamlessly into the surgical environment before moving inside the body, where viewers discover the biological properties of the Avance® Nerve Graft.

One of the project’s greatest challenges was communicating that Avance® is fundamentally a biological product.
Our creative approach moved away from rigid mechanical aesthetics, replacing them with softer materials, organic lighting, natural textures, and fluid biological motion.
Every environment was designed to reinforce the concept of regeneration, allowing viewers to intuitively recognize the graft as living biological tissue that works in harmony with the body’s own healing mechanisms.
To create a stronger connection, we designed the animation around a patient-centered narrative rather than a purely technical explanation.
Instead of introducing the product immediately, the story begins with the patient and the clinical need, establishing an emotional context before transitioning into the biological mechanisms that make Avance® unique.
Rather than treating the mechanism of action as an isolated scientific process, we framed it within the patient’s journey.
Every visual decision, from the organic rendering style to the pacing of the narrative, was designed to reinforce the biological nature of Avance® while maintaining an emotional connection with the audience.

Working closely with Axogen, our multidisciplinary team translated scientific documentation into a compelling visual story.
The production process combined script refinement, storyboard development, anatomical reconstruction, biologically inspired art direction, advanced 3D animation, and cinematic rendering.
The final animation successfully repositioned Avance® as more than an innovative nerve repair solution.
It became a story about biological regeneration, patient recovery, and the body’s remarkable ability to heal when supported by the right technology.
