3DforScience is a scientific communication and medical animation company for the Life Science sector. Their mission is to provide illustrative content and visual solutions through 3D animation videos, Virtual and Augmented reality, and interactive content to enhance healthcare communications.
We talked with Javier Floren, 3DforScience’s director about the present and future of the company as well as the implementation of the visualizations by the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
The first question is fundamental… how has 3DforScience experienced the whole process of confinement at an internal company level?
Since the beginning of 2010 we were a digital company, in the first years we collaborate with many freelances across the world so we are used to working remotely.
Now we have several teams integrated at the same office, from the scientific department to the marketing team and the technical developers and artists, but our essence is digital.
Furthermore, we work internationally with clients all over the world and manage all the projects with real-time online platforms so we didn’t have to do the famous digital transformation.
Also, our people are young and updated with the last communication technologies and equipment.
What has been the reaction of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to the use of digital tools?
It has been a quick change from a “nice to have” to a MUST to have. The sector has realized that it has to be innovative not only in their research but also in the way it shows its innovations, research, and new therapies.
Especially during these times when there is a lot of noise on the internet with different channels, strategies, information, campaigns, communications, etc.. you have to provide an engaging way for the user and customer to consume your information so you have to tell your story in a visual and compelling way. For doing so you have to try and use new technologies, solutions, and new marketing strategies.
How do the services offered by 3DforScience help companies during this difficult time of the pandemic?
I think we covered a wide range of solutions which made companies more efficient in their remote meetings. They got summarized their scientific information in concise and accessible materials, with more impactful and visual content so they were able to tell their story in an engaging way.
Has the use of visualizations increased?
Yes, they have increased. We have noticed how companies in these difficult times are looking for digital solutions in terms of communication and marketing, which allows them to continue developing their business and explaining their science in their remote meetings.
They have looked for alternative solutions that were not considered before, but that has generated great impact in terms of the progress and comfort that these digital tools allow, such as the realization of meetings and digital events.
As everything is now digital, companies have given greater attention to renewing or improving their branding and updating their marketing materials in digital format.
Gradually, companies are becoming familiar with the many digital tools that exist, their benefits, and their applications. Thus increasing the requests for all our services.
Also, looking ahead, in your opinion, do you think that remote events and meetings will continue to be used or will they return to face-to-face events?
The new situation will be a mixed reality with f2f meetings but also a big number of virtual events now we all confirmed they are possible and have an ROI considering saving resources and time for flying, accommodations, CO2, improving carbon footprint, and being sustainable.
We will be able also to attend a bigger number of events improving business development.
How do you think everything will be regarding marketing and communication issues in the post-pandemic period for pharmaceutical companies?
I see this pandemic period as something will create a change for better and most efficient communications with patients and final consumers. Brands and pharmaceutical companies have the chance to become even closer to their target audience.
In terms of business development, the pandemic sped up the process of digital transformation and provided a path to follow where healthcare professionals have to be more connected and use the technology to enhance their value proposition.
