Each 4th February is celebrated World Cancer Day. World Cancer Day is the one singular initiative under which the entire world can unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic. This project wants to prevent millions of deaths each year by raising awareness and education about cancer.
Prevention: the common fight
In 2021, WHO/Europe launched United Action Against Cancer, a pan-European cancer movement with a long-term vision to eliminate cancer as a life-threatening disease. This disease is once again one of the leading causes of death in the world, with more than 10 million deaths per year.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the most commonly diagnosed cancers are breast, lung, colorectal, prostate, skin, and gastric cancer. Of these, lung cancer is the most deadly. Cancers can have multiple causes and, as with other diseases, most cancers are the result of exposure to a variety of factors. It is important to remember that, although some factors cannot be modified, many can be avoided by reducing behavioral and dietary risks.
They also provide a series of significant data for this fight: in addition to being the second leading cause of death in the world, more than one-third of cancer cases can be avoided with appropriate prevention, early detection, and treatment strategies. For this reason, 3DforScience is constantly working to improve communication strategies that will make it possible to advance in the prevention of serious diseases such as cancer.
