3D animation making off

7 Minutes

3D animation is produced with computer software that allows you to create and manipulate 3D models and shapes. Objects can be moved and rotated following the same characteristics and qualities as in real life, using 3D graphics. But we are sure you’ve wondered what is 3D animation making off.

As we have seen in other articles, 3D animation is used in many sectors, in industries as diverse as games or medicine, as well as presentations and marketing.

The unique visual properties of 3D animation instantly capture attention and explain effectively. Therefore, it can be a powerful marketing tool when appropriately tailored to the company’s target audience and communication tone.

It can be helpful if the story is difficult to tell or if visual depth and robustness are essential to the product or message.

But what is the process of creating these types of animations?

Making off 3D video

Generally, three parts make up a project:

  1. Pre-production. Everything before the 3D process. Here is including briefings with clients to understand what they want to convey with the video, the message, and the product potential. So here is the search for resources and references, which defines a solid foundation and the internal organization of the project.
  2. Production. In this phase, the 3D processes are executed. Some of the many aspects that go into this step are:
  • Modeling: modeling all the characters, settings, and objects.
  • Texturing: texturing the models, adding colors, different maps, etc.
  • Rigging: insert skeletons to the characters and add controllers to animate them.
  • Animation: give life to the characters and objects created. For many animators, it is the preferred phase.
  • Lighting: define and balance color temperature, brightness, etc.
  • Rendering: export all frames. In 3D, the rendering process is slow.

3 . Post-production. All processes that improve the result. The main task is composition, consisting of exporting the 3D animation in different layers or render passes. Some examples:

  • 3D composition. The rendered layers of the animated movie are brought together again through compositing. All the layers and elements of the animate pieces are taken for a layering process that can be as simple as joining two layers or as complex as combining hundreds of layers and adjusting their properties.
  • Color correction. Color correction is the last thing to do in a 3D animation production. It is the process by which the sequence of images of the entire 3D animation project acquires a more coherent appearance.
